Jane C. Abelman

DULUTH, Minn. - Jane C. Abelman, 72, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 19, 2017, at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.

Jane was the daughter of Joseph and Edna Abelman. She graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer and Northern Michigan University.

A speech pathologist and teacher of special needs children, Jane was employed by the Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District, Trade Winds Rehabilitation Center and the Northwest Indiana Special Education Co-op.

Jane was active with the homeowners association, the Women's Association of the Northwest Indiana Symphony Society, her church, on the selection committee for a concert series in her area and many other committees. She was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.

Jane liked to travel and spend time with her family, especially during the Fourth of July. Jane had a special relationship with her nephew, Jeff Abelman, and niece, Amy Waldvogel. She also had many close friends from Bessemer and Crown Point, Ind.

Jane is survived by her brother, Bob (Sue) Abelman, and their children, Jeff (Cynthia) Abelman and Amy (Paul) Waldvogel; cousins, Irv (Mary Ann Fitzgerald) Abelman, Jim (Paula) Gribble, Diane (Karen Lumb) Gribble, Bob (Mindy) Gribble, John Gribble, Sally Rasmussen, Ginny Gribble, Kathy (Rob) Majewski, Helen Goldman, Matt Goldman, David (Tera) Goldman, Ken (Denise) Goldman, Joe (Monica) Devlin, Karlan (Chuck) Jessen, Jepper Devlin, Mary (Harold) Peterson, Tom (Carolyn) Jackson, Gregg Jackson, Peggy Hiney, David Jackson, Jim Hiekkinen and other cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents and their siblings; and cousins, Larry Goldman, Karl Goldman and Betty and Chuck Gribble.

The family is honoring Jane's life in a private memorial service at a later date.
