IRONWOOD, Mich. - Joan M. Strand, 84, a long-time resident of Ironwood Township, passed away Friday afternoon, Oct. 13, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Joan was born on May 30, 1933, in Cook County, Ill., daughter of the late Hugh and Pearl (Olson) Heenen. She grew up in Manitowish Waters, Wis.
On Aug. 25, 1951, Joan was united in marriage to Ronald J. Strand at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood. They were blessed with five daughters.
Joan was a beloved wife, a devoted mother, and a grandmother who absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She spent many happy hours knitting and crocheting, took great pleasure playing the organ and loved animals, especially cats.
Joan is survived by her husband, Ron; five daughters, Diane (Bob) Hodor, of North Carolina, Suzanne (Bruce) Hannula, Hancock, Yvonne (Roger) Zych, Ironwood Township, Debra (Jeffrey) Federico, Pine Lake, Wis., and Tammy (Rod) Giackino, Ironwood Township; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Gerry) Heenan, of Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m., at Lakeside Memorial Chapel, 806 Putnam St., in Wakefield.
Interment will take place in Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood Township.
