Hurley - Dorothy Walesewicz and Kyle Anderson were talking about the older upright piano in the Hurley Memorial Building. Kyle works with buying and selling pianos, and he was buying the old upright piano, but wanted to give the the faithful instrument a good send-off. Dorothy said to Kyle, "How about a talent show?" They both thought it was a good idea and Dorothy and her husband Joe set it up for the evening of Veteran's Day, about two weeks before the event.

This did not leave much time for organizing things and they weren't really sure what to expect. After all, there was a group of 70 volunteers behind the recent HIT Idol show in Ironwood and basically just the three of them. They got to work and did quite a job.

Saturday night the Memorial Building celebrated its 89th birthday with the talent show. Eleven different groups were represented in the show and the crowd was rewarded with an excellent variety show. The night started with a couple of patriotic numbers and they were off and running. There was a variety of music and dance for the crowd to enjoy.

The organizers got in on the fun as well. Kyle played some piano numbers, and Dorothy and her family band "Dorothy and the Boys" also played. In addition to the show, a birthday cake was served in honor of the 89th birthday of the building, and all seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves. The proceeds from the event will be used for needed projects around the building.

Anderson stated that the organizers were "real satisfied" with how the show came together, and they would do it again, though they "would welcome a few more engineers" and some extra help next time.
