Bessemer — A crew from Men’s Journal magazine liked what it saw at Big Powderhorn Mountain near Bessemer last winter.
In pointing out the best places to ski in the country, the magazine editors rate the ski hill the “number one mom and pop resort,” according to Powderhorn general manager Bruce Noren.
“They came here last winter and skied for a few days. They were a great group of people,” Noren said on Monday morning. He added a former U.S. Ski Team member was included in the group of skiers and the staff got along well with the visitors.
The second best mom and pop downhill ski resort was from Maine.
The monthly magazine offers vacation destinations, adventure ideas and interviews celebrities on a wide range of topics. The December magazine that includes the Powderhorn endorsement features Ben Affleck on the cover and includes his verbal sparring session with late night ABC television host Jimmy Kimmel.
The December magazine that hit the news stands on Monday morning also includes a review of favorite products of 2017 that were tested by its editorial staff.
Noren said Powderhorn tentatively plans a Dec. 15 ski opener. He’s hoping for continued cold temperatures at night so the snowmaking guns at Powderhorn can be deployed in full force, but he noted the high temperature for Monday was forecast at 42 degrees.
