Agnes M. 'Aggie' Armata

IRONWOOD, Mich. - Agnes M. "Aggie" Armata, 88, of Ironwood, died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 20, 2017, at Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation & Assisted Living Community in Ironwood.

She was born Jan. 9, 1929, in Ironwood, to the late Gregor and Veronica (Stano) Stano, and attended Norrie School and St. Ambrose Grade and High School.

She was employed as a clerk at Carlson's Clover Farm Store in Aurora Location, Ironwood, for three years, as an office clerk for Walter Oksa Plumbing in Ironwood, at Hansen Glove Factory for four years, in the meat department at Red Owl for 18 years, and as a bakery clerk at Jamboree Foods for 13 years. She then waitressed at the Kenmar Café in downtown Ironwood for a short time and worked in the bakery at Copps in Hurley, Wis., for five years, retiring in 2005.

Agnes was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, the Aurora Athletic Club, and a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, its Altar Society and St. Francis Circle, and also St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Belleview, Fla., where she lived from 1983 until returning to Ironwood in 1988. She enjoyed traveling.

She was married to Stanley Armata on Oct. 11, 1947, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood by the late Rev. Carl Petranek. Stanley preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1992.

Surviving are a son, Michael, Ironwood; brother-in-law, Albert "Buzz" (Jean) Burzinski, Ironwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Agnes was predeceased by her sisters, Margaret Burzinski, Christine Pribyl and Polly Ann Harris; brothers, Gregory, John, Joseph and Anton Stano; sisters-in-law, Virginia Stano and Betty Stano; brother-in-law, Jack Harris; and aunt, Sister Mary Nathanael R.S.M.

Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation in the St. Joseph Family Room at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, celebrant.

Luncheon will follow in the parish hall.

Rite of Committal and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, in the spring.
