Robert W. 'Bob' Morin

IRONWOOD, Mich. - Robert W. "Bob" Morin, 77, of Ironwood, died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at home.

He was born May 31, 1940, in Ironwood, son of the late Kenneth and Ruth (Minkin) Morin, attended Newport Grade School and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1958. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on Sept. 9, 1963, serving stateside, and was honorably discharged as a SP-4 on Sept. 9, 1965. Following his discharge, Bob returned to Ironwood and was employed at Wayne Nasi Construction, Angelo Luppino Construction and White Pine Copper Company, retiring after 18 years of service as a heavy equipment operator for the city of Ironwood in 2006.

Bob served as a Gogebic County Commissioner for six years and was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ironwood. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed slow-pitch softball, fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandkids.

He was married to Esther Holmes Leeper at Trinity Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on April 22, 1998.

He then was married to Gerri Nickel on Aug. 6, 1999, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood by the Rev. Darryl Pepin. Gerri preceded Bob in death on Sept. 10, 2016.

Surviving are a son, Peter (Amanda) Nickel; two daughters, Beth Ann (Darryll) Palmer and Paulette (Ray) Niemi; six grandchildren, Matthew (Ashley), Ryan (Stacey), Peter, Emily, Nicholas and Anthony; three great-grandchildren, London, Fiona and Haven; two brothers, Donald and Dennis (Sandy); and three cousins, Jerry Moren, Nancy (Lloyd) Jacobson and Judy (Ken) Bashara.

In addition to his parents and wives, Bob was predeceased by a sister, Joanne Pikka.

Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has taken place.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, in the St. Joseph Family Room at Our Lady of Peace Church in Ironwood. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, celebrant.

Full military honors will be accorded by the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard.

Luncheon will follow in the parish hall.

Rite of Committal and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, in the spring.
