Frances Sophie Huber

UPSON, Wis. — Frances Sophie Huber, 88, of Upson, passed away peacefully after a brief stay at the nursing home on Jan. 23, 2018.

She was born on Jan. 15, 1930, in her home in Upson, where she has resided her entire life. Frances was the daughter of the late Anton and Sophie (Lutz) Huber.

She graduated from Iron Belt High School in 1947. Over the years she had many different jobs. Frances ran her own store in Upson, worked at the mill in Mellen, ran the Upson Post Office, worked as a bookkeeper for Gentile Oil Company in Hurley, and was the benefits specialist for the Iron County Senior Center in Hurley until her retirement.

While working these other jobs, she was also the town clerk and treasurer for the town of Anderson for more than 40 years.

Frances lived a simple, hard-working life. She was deeply religious. She loved spending time with her great nieces, great nephews, and her great-great nieces. Frances was always kind and considerate to others. She especially enjoyed working around her home.

She is survived by her special niece, Isabelle (Robert) Williams, of Upson; Isabelle’s children, great-nephews, Karl (Renee) Huber, of Ladysmith, and his children, Amelia, Maggie, and Emily, and Kevin Williams of Hampton, Va .; great nieces, Kristina Williams, of Santa Maria, Calif., Kayla Williams, of Minot, N.D., and her daughter, Katarina Hibbard.

Also surviving is her nephew, Ted (Tanya) Flateau, of Redmond, Wash .; and four nieces, Ruth Hornyach, of Oregon City, Ore., Theresa (Jim) Braile, of Craig Harbor, Wash., Peggy (Dick) Nelson, of Longview, Wash., and Kay (Tom) Simpson, of Kirkland, Wash .; and many other great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Olga Huber and Mary Flateau, as well as eight other siblings who died as infants.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hurley. Father Frank Kordek, OFM will be the celebrant. Frances’ family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the mass at the church on Saturday. A luncheon will follow the mass in the fellowship hall. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Upson in the spring.
