Walter J. Mlynarski III

HURLEY, Wis. - Walter J. Mlynarski III, age 76, of Hurley, Wis., passed away on Feb. 3, 2018. Walter was born on Sept. 27, 1941, in Detroit, Mich., to Walter and Lillian (Dzieciuch) Mlynarski.

He attended Catholic Schools in Detroit, graduating from McKenzie High School in 1959. He also attended Northwood Institute in Midland, Mich., and was in the school's first graduating class in 1961, with an Associate Degree in Business.

On June 20, 1964, he married Sandra Bryja in Detroit. Sandra preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 2005. Together they raised a family of eight children.

He was employed with Firestone and General Motors before changing careers to become a semi truck driver, first for Allied, and then Farmer Jack Supermarkets until his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree. He was also a volunteer with the VFW and American Legion in honor of his father's service to his country. He enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends, as well as meeting his friends for coffee at Burger King or McDonald's. He had an awesome sense of humor and a very laid-back personality. He liked joking with family and friends and considered himself a Coney Dog Expert. He loved his dog and his dog always kept him company. He enjoyed sightseeing on the Great Lakes, looking for eagles, lighthouses and ships.

He will be sadly missed by his children: Judy (Dale) Anderson, of Hurley; Sandi (Brick) Sherlock, of Peck, Mich .; John (Autumn) Mlynarski, of Fort Gratiot, Mich .; Joseph (Michelle) Mlynarski, of New Haven, Mich .; Jeannine Mlynarski, of Ironwood, Mich .; Paul Mlynarski, of Cass City, Mich., and Matthew Mlynarski, of Ramsay, Mich. He is further survived by many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 41 years, Sandra, and one son, Walter Mlynarski IV.

Visitation for Walter will be on Wednesday, Feb. 7, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell Street in Ironwood. There will be a Rosary Service at the church on Thursday at 9 a.m. conducted by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will continue on Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 108 S. Marquette Street in Ironwood, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Frank Kordek, OFM officiating.
