Hurley — A Milwaukee man faces felony charges in connection with an alleged assault this summer at an Iron County, Wis., summer camp.

Daniel Aguirre, 19, is charged with first-degree child sexual assault-sexual contact with a child under the age of 13 and exposing a child to harmful material.

The assault charge is a Class B felony, with a maximum potential sentence of 60 years in prison, while the other charge is a Class I felony, with a potential maximum sentence of a $10,000 fine and/or up to three years, six months in prison.

The charges stem from an incident at Camp Thunderhead in Oma in July.

Iron County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Matthew Foryan, according to the criminal complaint in the case, received a report from the Milwaukee Child Advocacy Center in November saying a 12-year-old had reported sexual contact had occurred.

Based on the report, Foryan requested the Milwaukee Police Department Sensitive Crimes Division conduct a child forensic interview with the alleged victim.

On Nov. 28, Milwaukee Police Department detective Efrain Cornejo interviewed the child, according to the complaint.

The child attended the camp from June 28 to July 28. According to the complaint, the victim told Cornejo the incident occurred a few days prior the the end of camp. There were around six or seven campers together in a room studying, the child said, when one by one they got sleepy and left. Eventually, he was the last one awake with Aguirre, his cabin counselor.

The boy said Aguirre asked if he would like to sleep in his bed, according to the complaint, and the victim said he agreed, as he was having trouble falling asleep. It was then the victim said the alleged assault occurred, as he said Aguirre made him touch him under the covers.

The boy said Aguirre allegedly showed him pictures of naked men on Twitter, which he looked away from “because it was gross,” according to the complaint.
