Josephine L. Bracket

CASPIAN, Mich. - Josephine L. Bracket, 100, of Caspian, and formerly of Ironwood, joined our Lord in Heaven on Feb. 15, 2018.

Jo was born Jan. 30, 1918, in Hurley Wis., eldest daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Bruno) Paris. She attended Montreal (Wis.) Grade School and graduated from Lincoln High School in Hurley. She worked for a short time as a nanny in Chicago and a cook at the Silver Dime, in Ironwood, frying four to five hundred fish fries per night with only two frying pans. Jo was employed as a clerk with K-Mart for 20 years.

On Oct. 20, 1936, she was married to Peter Bracket. He preceded her in death.

Jo was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. She is a member of St. Cecelia/Agnes Catholic Churches in Caspian and Iron River.

Jo celebrated her one hundredth birthday with her family on two separate occasions. She was a remarkable woman with a variety of skills. Jo excelled in knitting, needlepoint, crocheting, stained glass, cooking, canning and baking. She loved picking wild mushrooms, and growing plants and flowers.

Surviving are two sons, Peter Jr. (Margaret) Bracket of DelRay Beach, Fla., and James Bracket of Caspian; a daughter, Marsha Bracket of Caspian; six grandchildren, Michele Bracket of Ridgeland, S.C., Julie Bracket of Superior, Wis., Paul (Michelle) Bracket of Gladstone, Stacy (Greg) Leonarduzzi of Iron River, Kim (Jim) Mitchell of Iron Mountain and Chris (Amy) Bracket of Kingsford; 19 great grandchildren, Peter IV, James, Whitney, Elijah, Andrew, Luke, Ella Grace, Devin, Collin, Teagan, Jacob, Brandon, Austin, Alli, Jordan, Cole, Laura, Kayla and Beau; and two great-great-grandchildren, Ava and Kye; brother, John Paris of Milwaukee; and sisters, Doree Hautamaki of Germantown, Wis., and Lucille Valentino of Wauwatosa, Wis .; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, Jo was preceded in death by grandson, Peter M. Bracket III; a sister, Mary Lerza; brothers, Louis Paris and Mario and Louis in childhood.

Visitation will be held at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls, on Friday, Feb. 23, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Funeral services will follow on Friday at 1 p.m. at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian. Fr. Gregory Veneklase will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hurley.

Pallbearers will be Paul and Chris Bracket, Greg, Devin and Collin Leonarduzzi, and Jim Mitchell.
