MIDLAND, Mich. - Jacqueline Leppanen, 76, of Midland, passed away in her home on Feb. 27, 2018, after a prolonged illness.

Jackie was born on Dec. 30, 1941, in Midland to Modean (Uland) and Michael McCann, both of whom preceded her in death. Two brothers, Michael McCann Jr. and Raymond McCann, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by one brother, Patrick McCann. of Midland. Other surviving family members include her husband. John A. Leppanen, whom she married in 1965; three daughters, Laura (Jeff) Schroth, Carolyn (Jeff) Markesi and Sarah (Brian) Brusokas; eight grandchildren, including Kelsey, Adam and Kaitlyn Schroth, Alex and Kendall Markesi, and Brianna, Isabella and Brodie Brusokas.

Jackie graduated from Midland High School in 1960 and earned a bachelor's degree in education from Central Michigan University. She began her teaching career in Clarkston, and after teaching in Muskegon, finished her career as an elementary teacher with the Coleman Public Schools. She loved teaching and proudly started hundreds of students on their way to success in school.

Jackie participated in a variety of activities when the opportunity arose. She spent time on the ski slopes, the golf course and walking trails. Her travels included two trips to Europe, several cruises and visits to all parts of the country. She also enjoyed the theater, movies and a good book. She particularly enjoyed her book club meetings with her concerned and supportive friends, Judy, Patricia and Rose Marie.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her devotion to her family provided guidance and help at every turn. She will be dearly missed by family and friends and will forever be in our hearts.

Funeral services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018, from St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church. Visitation with family and friends will take place at 1:30 p.m. until time of Mass. Interment will follow in the Homer Township Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the National Kidney Foundation.
