Olive F. 'Tata' Behrendt

WAKEFIELD, Mich. — Olive F. “Tata” Behrendt, 93, formerly of Gile, Wis., passed away on Jan. 30, 2018, in Wakefield.

Olive was born on June 29, 1924, in Gile, Wis., to Julius A. and Josephine A. (Laguna) Perin. She attended Montreal Grade School and Lincoln High School in Hurley.

On Feb. 8, 1942, she was married to William “Jim” Behrendt at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley by the late Rev. Peter Meyers. She loved visiting with family and friends, but more than anything, she loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was a past member of the Gile Flowage Association. She also did volunteer work at the Hurley Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed cooking, camping, visiting with family and friends and playing cards. She was also a former employee of Kodiak Corp.

She will be sadly missed by: A son, Wayne (Cathy), Behrendt, of Gile, and daughter, Dolores (Craig) Werschem, of Muskegon, seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim, a son, Gary Gene, in infancy, in 1949; grandsons Mark Vittone and Kevin Vittone, granddaughter, Beth Ann Zumkowski, and sister, Blanche Engstrom.

She was a good, caring, kind and generous mother and wife.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 17, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hurley, with Father Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant. Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
