Ironwood - Supporters of the Iron Belle Trail gathered at the Elk and Hound Restaurant Saturday night for a dinner to raise for the trail.

"(It went) better then we thought. We weren't sure what we were going to get, you know it was our first one. It was a shot in the dark as to what was going to happen," said Sam Davey, one of the fundraiser's organizers. "But we're quite pleased with the turnout."

Along with a sloppy joe dinner, there was a 50/50 drawing and various prizes to be raffled off.

While the final count hadn't been completed, he estimated the event raised between $2,000 and $3,000 for the trail

The money raised at the dinner will fund various efforts to improve trail safety, according to Davey, including improving signage.

"Just adding little things here and there," he said. "It is safe, but we always try to make improvements to make things better."
