Delores RoseMarie 'Dilly' Rolando

BESSEMER, Mich. - Delores RoseMarie "Dilly" Rolando, 72, a long-time resident of Bessemer, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, April 25, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Delores was born on July 4, 1945, in Wakefield, a daughter of Hugo William and Helen Marie (Bloomquist) Mattila. She was valedictorian of the Wakefield High School Class of 1963.

On July 6, 1963, Delores was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Dennis D. Rolando. They shared many wonderful years together and raised three children.

She worked at Allstate Insurance Company in Milwaukee for a few years and moved back to Wakefield and worked in various restaurants, helping her husband through college. Dilly then worked as an insurance agent at Twin City Insurance Company in Ironwood for 33 years.

She was an active member of Sharon Lutheran Church in Bessemer, and a supporting member and an officer of the Bessemer American Legion Post 27 Auxiliary for 28 years.

Dilly was an excellent cook and homemaker. She did sewing for many people. She always helped all her friends. Dilly was well liked by everyone and didn't have a mean bone in her body.

She will be sadly missed by her family and friends and her beloved husband of 55 years, who said she taught him everything good about life and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Our loss will be God's gain. Not many people have touched so many lives as Delores did.

Dilly is survived by the love of her life, Dennis Sr. of 59 years; three children, Denise (Curt) Puisto, Dennis Jr. (Robin) Rolando and Dusten (Cindy) Rolando; five cherished grandchildren, Hannah Puisto, Dylan Rolando, Tyler Rolando, Jordan Blunt and Parker Blunt; a brother, Dennis (Janis) Mattila; a sister, Darlene Lillie; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; four brothers, Eugene, Eino, Norman and Duane Mattila; and a sister, Doris RoseAnn Mattila.

Because her family is so widespread throughout the country, a memorial service will be held later this summer around the Fourth of July (her birthday) so that everyone has a chance to make it home for her service.

Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield. Condolences may be expressed online at lakesidememorialchapel.com.
