Ironwood — While neither has the job yet, the Ironwood Area Schools Board of Education narrowed the field for the district’s next superintendent down to two Wednesday.

Ewen-Trout Creek Superintendent Alan Tulppo and Travis Powell, principal of Lake Superior Elementary School in Ashland, Wis., will both be offered second interviews.

“I think we’ve been very fortunate to have two good choices,” board trustee Marilyn Carey said after the board made its selections.

The pair were two of the four candidates the district interviewed to replace Tim Kolesar, who announced in December he was retiring at the end of the of the school year after having served as Ironwood’s superintendent since 2010

A fifth candidate was unable to make the interview.

The two are expected to be interviewed beginning at 4 p.m. May 10.
