Bessemer - The snow is gone and the sun is out, it must be time for garage sales and losing that winter coat in the Upper Peninsula. The city of Bessemer kicked off garage sale season with its annual all city garage sale Saturday.

Driving around Bessemer Saturday morning it was common to see a line of vehicles parked on the side of the road outside the open garages. Moving between sales, the same people and cars were witnessed migrating along, looking for deals or an upgrade on something they already have or even to replace that which was broken.

Julie Trcka said she had already sold a lot of teen-aged clothes of her daughters. Trcka said the clothes were really moving quickly as they are so expensive to buy new.

Trcka also said she opens her garage every year for the sale and wants to put out good stuff for people. "You never know what people are looking for, but working full time I try and get as much out as I can."

Consumer Reports offers a step-by-step plan to move your stuff:

-Be Organized

-Don't put a price on anything, unless a person will not make an offer

-Advertize

-Go through your stuff (there might be a forgotten $20 in there).

-Open on Thursday or Friday and start early so there is less competition

-Be friendly (put down the phone and engage the people that come to your sale)

-Keep your house locked during the sale.
