Eugene Gentile

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Beloved brother and uncle, Eugene Gentile, 78, died peacefully in his sleep on June 15, 2018 in Minneapolis after a brief illness.

Mr. Gentile was born on Jan. 11, 1940, in Hurley, Wis. to Dominic and Ida (née Lerza) Gentile. During his professional life Mr. Gentile held several positions in manufacturing in and around Minneapolis. He was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid reader, and subscribed to various Catholic newsletters and periodicals. He was particularly fond of the works of Padre Pio.

Late in life Mr. Gentile made his home at Providence Place in Minneapolis. He was loved by both residents and staff for his sweet demeanor and beautiful smile. He occupied his time with various group activities, and he found great pleasure in individual pursuits such as arts and crafts, keeping up with current events, and continuing his devotional studies.

Mr. Gentile is survived by his sisters, Mary Paoli, of Ironwood, Mich., and Esther Schiavetti of Wausau, Wis .; sisters-in-law, Gerry Gentile, Peggy Gentile, and Sigrid Chambers; and nieces and nephews, Rita Bjork (Jim), Debra Gentile, Lori Pelissero (Gerry), Annette Thiesfeldt (Todd), Michael Gentile (Linda), Gregg Gentile, Marie Perock (Joe), Ramona Olson, Rosana Olson-Hedahl (Kyle), Perian Olson, Julian McDonough, Krissy Olson, Kristin Gentile, and Andrew Gentile. Mr. Gentile is also survived by many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, John, Dominic, and Anthony Gentile, and his sisters, Edda Olson and Dora Gentile, all of Hurley.

All are welcome to attend services for Mr. Gentile, which will be held at St. Mary's Church, 404 Iron Street, Hurley, on Tuesday, June 26 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.

Burial will commence at St. Mary's Cemetery following the Funeral Mass.

The family will host a luncheon afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary's Church.
