Jeanne M. (DeMarte) Davis

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Jeanne M. (DeMarte) Davis, age 69, a former resident of Bessemer and Wakefield, entered eternal life Monday morning, July 9, 2018, at the Norlite Nursing Center, where she had resided for the past 14 months.

Born Aug. 26, 1948, in Bessemer Township, a daughter of Anton and Lorraine (Tousignant) DeMarte, Jeanne was raised in Bessemer and attended the Washington Grade School and A.D. Johnston High School.

Later, as a resident at Keen Agers Assisted Living in Wakefield for over 25 years, she made many friends and was an avid walker who could be seen walking around Sunday Lake several times a day. Besides being an avid walker, Jeanne enjoyed watching the Food Network, loved Country Western and Rock and Roll music, and enjoyed the local basketball and football games.

She possessed a sweet and generous spirit and quick, welcoming smile. Throughout the years, Jeanne was an active participant in the many programs and arts and craft activities offered by the Jean Barbacovi Center, Look-Up Workshop and Serenity. Fourteen months ago, Jeanne came to reside at the Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette to be near her sister. The staff at Norlite kept her active and she loved playing Bingo with the residents who became her other family.

A loving sister and aunt, Jeanne is survived by her siblings, Marlene (David Alvarado) DeMarte, of Germantown, Wis., Janice (James) Trethewey, of Marquette, and Dennis (Elizabeth Murrell) DeMarte, of Dollar Bay; her nieces and nephews, Justin Trethewey, Dino (Heather) DeMarte, Aaron DeMarte, and Jessica (Eric) Leopold; great-nieces and nephews, Zoey, Hailey, Myles and Chase DeMarte, and Cyrus Leopold.

While Jeanne's family will miss her loving presence, they feel blessed that she was a part of their lives. The family is especially grateful for the professional and compassionate friendship of her many caregivers, among them Cindy Giachino. And, special appreciation to the entire staff at the Norlite Nursing Center for their loving care and attention which added immensely to the quality of her life. Our Jeanne was a blessing and will be missed! Thank you.

A private family graveside ceremony will be held, with burial at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer.

The Fassbender Funeral Home is serving the family, where condolences may be expressed online at fassbenderfuneralhome.com.
