Ironwood - The rides were lit up, the food stands were open and the fairgrounds were filled with visitors Thursday as the Gogebic County Fair kicked off for another year.

By the evening the exposition building and animals barns had begun to fill up as people dropped off their exhibits and animal entries for the weekend. Everything from cows and horses to vegetables and flowers are on display and competing in their respective categories over the course of the weekend.

Elsewhere in the fairgrounds, visitors rode the rides in the midway and played carnival games for the chance to win a prize.

In the evening, dancers from Bethany Ann Hellen Studios were scheduled to perform; after which, a teen dance and the annual high school challenge were also planned.

The fair, now in its 97th year, will continue today with Senior Citizens Day, and run through Sunday.
