Ironwood man gets prison in stolen gun case

BESSEMER — An Ironwood man will spend time in prison for home invasion and receiving and concealing stolen firearms.

Gogebic County Circuit Judge Michael Pope sentenced Aubrey Dean Cummins, 19, to between five and 15 years in prison for second-degree home invasion and between two and 10 years in prison for receiving and concealing stolen firearms Tuesday.

Cummins pleaded guilty to the two charges in June, as part of a plea agreement that had charges of first-degree home invasion and larceny of a firearm dismissed at sentencing.

Cummins was charged with the felonies in connection with a Jan. 18 break-in of an Erwin Township house, where authorities say as many as 13 guns were stolen.

The Gogebic-Iron Area Narcotics Team arrested Cummins and another man in an Ironwood motel the next day. One of the stolen guns, along with drug paraphernalia, were found at the scene, a GIANT spokesperson said at the time.

Cummins received a jail credit of 249 days for time served prior to his sentencing.

He was also sentenced to time served Tuesday for a past probation violation.

Only three of the stolen guns were recovered in Gogebic County, according to Prosecutor Nick Jacobs, and while he said some additional ones have been recovered in Wisconsin, he wasn’t sure of the details of that case.

Cummins was one of four people charged in connection with the stolen guns.

Donald Wayne Lollar, 32, was also arrested at the Ironwood motel with Cummins. He was sentenced in July to between 3.5 years and 15 years in prison for one count of second-degree home invasion and time served for one count of larceny of a firearm.

A jury found Michael David Zupan, 34, guilty of two counts of receiving and concealing stolen firearms and one count of possessing a firearm while committing a felony on Sept. 20. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 30.

Justin Paul Orlich, 32, is accused of helping hide the firearms after they were stolen. He is charged with receiving and concealing stolen firearms, being a felon in possession of a weapon and felony firearm.

His next court date is scheduled for October.
