Don Sherrer, below, brought handmade wreaths to this year's Hurley Craft Fair on Saturday. A steady crowd checked out all the crafts at the fair sponsored by the Hurley Booster Club Saturday at the school.

Hurley - Crafters and those who appreciate their work flooded the Hurley K-12 School commons for the Hurley Booster Club Craft Fair on Saturday. The annual show, has become a tradition during this time of the year. Vendors were in good spirits as they displayed the results of their hard work.
Susan and John Kopacz, from Hurley, brought stained glass creations. She cuts the glass pieces by hand and solders them together to form special designs. John was Susan's "gofer," helping with sales and a variety of tasks.
Don Scherrer was selling handmade wreaths. He does all the work on the wreaths, from cutting the boughs and picking up the pine cones, to assembly of the wreaths. In addition to making wreaths, he was happy to talk about his son, who graduated from Hurley and went on to graduate with a university, so he is happy to support the school. He came to the fair after seeing a demand for his product.
At another booth, Joanne Sorenson said the event is one of her favorites in the area. She has been crafting for a number of years.
"With the weather outside, I've been selling scarves," she said.
She uses her own patterns to create her works. She has been coming to the craft fair for the past five years. "I enjoy putting colors together and make custom purses by order as well," she said. "It's a beautiful craft show at a great time of year."
Kalyssa Olkonen brought her signs and soaps. "I wanted to make something natural for myself, and other people seemed to appreciate it," she said, adding it looked to be a good day. "People are in the mindset to buy."
The day featured special events, including the debut appearance for this year's Silver Express show band from the school. Director Roy Haeger said the group did "really well" in presenting holiday songs.
This year's version of Silver Express features a lot of new talent, with five freshmen in the ensemble of 10. Haeger said their tryouts were held in October and the group is working hard. Its next appearance will be for the lighting of the spirit tree on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 6:30 p.m.
The fair was capped off by a visit from Santa in the afternoon. Children and their parents waited to speak to Santa, who offered kids a bag of candy after their visit.
