Shirley Kapitan

IRONWOOD, Mich. — Shirley Kapitan, 92, of Ironwood, passed away on Nov. 20, 2018.

Shirley was born on Feb. 25, 1926, in Superior, Wis. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Superior and the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. In 1952, she married William “Bill” Kapitan. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 2002. Shirley began her career as a teacher at Puritan School in Bessemer. She was later a substitute teacher with the Ironwood School District.

She is survived by daughters, Chantel Kapitan, Jane (Brad Dalbec) Baker and Nancy (Col. Christopher, Ret.) Trouve; and grandchildren, Matthew Baker, Raymond (Gretchen) Trouve and William Trouve. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill, in 2002; her granddaughter, Erin Baker, in 2014; her sister, Mary White; and sister-in-law, Adele Radakovich.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley will be on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at noon at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood with Fr. Robb Jurkovich officiating. There will be a visitation at the church on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family has designated the Ironwood Carnegie Library or Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church for memorial contributions, if so desired.
