Area schools prepare holiday concerts

One of the highlights for any school music program is the annual holiday concert. Whatever the name - Christmas program, holiday performance or winter concert - it's a great time to make music as multiple generations of family members gather in auditoriums and gymnasiums across the region.

Area school districts have planned 16 holiday concerts in 16 days.

Ironwood's elementary holiday concert is first on the calendar on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. in the Luther L. Wright K-12 School's second floor gym.

Ironwood's show choir Accent! and other choirs will perform a concert at the Historic Ironwood Theatre on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m.

The Ironwood middle school concert is set for Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 6 p.m. in the LLW gym, while the Ironwood band concert is set for Friday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m. at the Ironwood Theatre.


Hurley's winter band concert will be Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium.

The choir's winter concert will be the next evening, Wednesday, Dec. 12, also at 7 in the auditorium.

The elementary holiday concerts are set for the morning of Thursday, Dec. 20. The PreK-1 performance will be at 8:30 a.m., followed by grades 2-4 at 9:30.


The Bessemer sixth grade, junior high and senior high bands will host a winter concert on Friday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. in the A.D. Johnston High School gym.

The Bessemer choir winter concert will be the day, Saturday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m., back at the ADJ gym.

The Washington Elementary School K-6 program is set for during the day on Friday, Dec. 21. An open rehearsal will be at 9 a.m., followed by the performance at 1 p.m.


Mercer will host its Christmas concert on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. It will include several groups from elementary and high school.


The Wakefield-Marenisco School will host its concert on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 6 p.m. in the Cardinal Gym. The elementary and high school bands and choirs will perform.

Ewen-Trout Creek

Ewen-Trout Creek's elementary Christmas program and high school band concert will follow one another on Wednesday, Dec. 19, starting at 7 p.m., in the school's cafetorium.


Ontonagon's holiday concert will be Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 6 p.m.


Watersmeet's holiday program is set for Thursday, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m. in the school gym.
