Mary Newberry

FLINT, Mich. - Mary Newberry, 61, of Flint, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at her home.

Mary was born in Pontiac on Nov. 27, 1956, the daughter of Engelbert and Margaret (Dunn) Schober. She married Alger Newberry on Jan. 14, 1977, in Mount Clemens, Michigan. Mary worked for many years as an Administrative Assistant at St. Robert Catholic Church, where she touched the lives of many people through her daily interactions with staff, parish members, students and many others.

She was an active member of St. Robert Catholic Church and helped in various roles throughout the years.

Painting china was her artistic talent. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed cross-stitching, sewing, gardening and canning. Mary was known for her gourmet meals that she loved preparing for family, friends, and church events. She was a wonderful hostess who loved having people gather in her home and had the unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved. Her greatest joy was being a loving grandmother.

Mary is survived by her husband of 41 years, Alger; children, Emily Newberry and husband, Jason Bias, Andrea Newberry and husband, Ira Cox, Alger Newberry III; grandchildren, Thora and Otto Cox, Vesper and Althea Bias; siblings, Anne Loftus, John and wife, Lynda Schober, Nancy and husband, Fred Cross, Shirley Noonan, Dorothy Schober and Les Sandelman, Margie and husband, Steve Drohn; mother-in-law, Barbara Newberry; and her beloved church family.

Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Father Anthony Brooks and Father Louis Ekka concelebrated. Cremation followed the Mass. Visitation was 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Monday at the church until the time of the Mass. A Rosary was prayed 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
