Michael 'Mike' Frederick Fauerbach

IRONWOOD, Mich. - Michael "Mike" Frederick Fauerbach, 67, of Saxon, Wis., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, while doing what he loved - skiing in the woods.

Mike was born on April 21, 1951, to Robert and Kathleen (Miler) Fauerbach in Madison, Wis. He graduated from high school in Sun Prairie, Wis. He also attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in History and later received his Doctorate of Law, graduating with honors.

After graduation, he was proud to clerk for the State of Wisconsin Supreme Court. Mike's career spanned 35 years, starting as a public defender for the state of Wisconsin, locally working with Jacobs, McDonald, Silc and Fauerbach, and ending his career in Ashland, Wis., with his own law practice, Fauerbach and Martell, S.C.

After his retirement, he was active in his community. He was the president and founding member of the Hurley Education Foundation, and a board member of ICORE (Iron County Outdoor Recreation Enthusiasts) and was active in helping connect the non-motorized bike trail in Hurley to the Iron Belle Trail.

His passions included forestry and biking, and spending time at Camp Olympia, working in the woods and spending time with family and friends.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 39 years, Gloria, of Saxon; son, Robert Frederick (Elizabeth) Fauerbach and their daughter, Morgan James Fauerbach, all of Boulder, Colo .; his mother, Kathleen Miler Fauerbach, of Sun Prairie; sister, Marcia Ann Hill, of Chandler, Ariz .; brother, Kurt Miler (Dana) Fauerbach, of Windsor, Wis .; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, friends and colleagues, as well as many nieces and nephews who he also loved to spend time with.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert.

The family would like to invite you to a celebration of Mike's life on Saturday, Jan. 19, at Sharon's Coffee Company and East End Tavern in Hurley from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be a time to share remembrances at 5 p.m.
