GCC presidential search down to four candidates

IRONWOOD — Gogebic Community College officials will interview four candidates to be the next college president this coming week.

Four candidates on four consecutives days — Tuesday through Friday — will each meet with the public in a series of open forums, have dinner with the college Board of Trustees and then interview with the board.

All these events will take place in Lindquist Student Center on the Ironwood campus. While the events are all open to the public, dinner will only be served to the candidates, board members and their guests.

The finalists are Gerald “Jay” Edgren, president of Frontier Community College in Fairfield, Ill .; George McNulty, vice president of student affairs at Colby Community College in Colby, Kan .; Richard Sax, provost and vice president for academic affairs at University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College in Rio Grande, Ohio; and Stacy Young, dean of the School of Business and School of Advanced Technology at Southwestern Michigan College in downstate Dowagiac.

The schedule for each of the days is the same, beginning with a public open forum from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by another such forum specifically for students from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m., and then another public forum from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The forums will include a question and answer session with the candidates. Feedback forms will be provided to all attendees and given to the board for review.

The candidates will join the board for dinner from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., followed by a public session interview from 5:45 to 7 p.m.

The finalists will be on campus on the following days: Tuesday, George McNulty; Wednesday, Richard Sax; Thursday, Stacy Young; and Friday, Gerald “Jay” Edgren.

The college plans to announce the next president by the end of the month.
