Raymond H. Berg

WAKEFIELD, Mich. — Raymond H. Berg, 77, passed away on Feb. 10, 2019 at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield.

He was born Feb. 19, 1941, son of Walter and Mildred (Kleimola) Berg. He attended Roosevelt School and graduated from A. D. Johnson High School with the class of 1959.

Ray was married to Carol Paynter; and they had one daughter, Traci Lee. Later they divorced. In August of 1980, he married Nancy Jacobson Seffker; and together they raised their blended family of Joseph Seffker, Tracy Mae Damm, Grant Berg and Traci Lee Cherne.

After high school Ray worked in Minneapolis, then returned to Bessemer and was employed at Bennetts Gas Station. He later was employed by the Gogebic County Road Commission, retiring after 30 years in 1999.

Ray enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending his summers at Lake Gogebic County Park fishing and attending campfires with friends. After he retired he was a caretaker at Gogebic County Park for two years.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nancy; children, Traci Lee Cherne (Chris), Joseph Seffker (Sue), Tracy Mae Damm (Brian) and Grant Berg (Vicky); grandchildren, Cory, Colin, Caden and Caleb Winter, Cole Olson and Courtney Seffker; sister-in-law, Kathy Wilson and family; niece, Sissy Sejbl (Mike) and family and nephew, Billy Phillips (Kathy).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mildred Berg; in-laws, Melvin and Shirley Jacobson; sister, Donna, brothers and sisters-in-law, LeRoy and Carolyn Jacobson and Pat Wilson and grandsons, Jeremy Olson and Alex Seffker.

Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Sharon Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. with a visitation from 10-11 a.m. Fellowship will follow in Kastman Hall.

We would like to thank the staff from Aspirus Ironwood Hospital and the caregivers from Gogebic Medical Care for the excellent care given to Ray during his illness.
