Ironwood Theatre presents ski movie tonight

IRONWOOD — Historic Ironwood Theatre will present the ski movie “The Blizzard of Aahhhs” tonight at 7.

The movie, celebrating its 30th anniversary, is considered to have popularized the concept of “extreme” skiing and inspired a generation of skiers worldwide, said a theatre spokesman.

It showcases the cliff-jumping prowess of Scot Schmidt and introduced mohawked bad boy punk rocker Glen Plake — all in France’s stunning Chamonix Valley with a soaring pop soundtrack for the first time in a ski film.

“The Blizzard of Aahhh’s” remains the benchmark of ski movies.

In addition to the movie, there will be door prizes, a “gnarliest” hair contest and costume parade prizes. Participants are encouraged to dress up in their best ‘80s ski apparel.

Doors and Kelly’s Bar will be open at 6 p.m. and the movie starts at 7.
