Dale W. Berg

BESSEMER, Mich. - Dale W. Berg, 73, of Bessemer, passed away Friday, March 8, 2019.

Dale was born on Nov. 2, 1945, in Bessemer Township, a son of John W. and Elsie E. (Johnson) Berg. He graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood in 1963. Later, he attended a law enforcement program at Lansing Community College.

On May 15, 1965, Dale married Maureen D. Schinko in Chicago.

Dale worked as a truck driver at Glenview Materials in Glenview, Ill. He then was a deputy sheriff in Eaton County, Michigan and retired due to illness.

Dale was a member of Sharon Lutheran Church in Bessemer. He coached Girls Little League softball and was involved in a Cub Scout program.

Dale is survived by his loving wife, Maureen; three children, Dale Anne "Dee" Havenor, Marquette, Tracy Lynn (Todd) Frantz, Shakopee, Minn., and Patrick Joseph (Kellie) Berg, White Oak, N.C .; six grandchildren, Chelsea Lee Havenor, Alex (Kaylee) Knight, Benjamin Ward, Rachel Ward, Joseph Berg and Madison Berg; four stepgrandchildren, Lance Moncada, Steven (Jessica) Thompson, Sierra Thompson and Sidney (Sean) Rondorf; a great-granddaughter, Gracelyn Knight; four brothers, Roger (Gladys), Orange, Calif., Donald (Eloise), Wheeling, Ill., Robert (Margaret), Bessemer, and Larry (Linda), Matthews, N.C .; a sister, Denice (Robert) Synkelma-Turney, Florence, Ore .; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Berg, Elgin, Ill., and Joyce Peeler, Saginaw; a maternal aunt, Gladys Margetta; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Chaz Havenor; two brothers, James, in infancy and Archie; and a sister and three brothers-in-law, Eunice and Leslie Johnson, Eugene Synkelma and Joseph Schinko.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 13, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Sharon Lutheran Church, 100 E. Sellar St., in Bessemer, with the Rev. Bill Jacobson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Dale's family.

A luncheon will be served at the Kastman Hall following the service.

A committal service and interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer, in the spring.
