Leonard V. Zaleski

HURLEY, Wis. - Leonard V. Zaleski Sr., 96, of Hurley, passed away at the Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on Feb. 22, 1923, in Ironwood, Mich., the son of Vincent Zaleski and Bernice (Bogard) (Zaleski) DaPra. Leonard married Mary Jane Conhartoski on Oct. 25, 1947.

Leonard worked as a miner most of his life. He served in World War II in Burma and India. He was active in the VFW and other community organizations.

Mary Jane preceded him in death on July 28, 2015, after 67 years of marriage. He is also preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Frances Chiapusio and Louise Rulapa.

He is survived by his eight children, Len (Geri) Zaleski Jr., Diann Zaleski-Wilming, Ron (Marlene) Zaleski, Jeanne (Andy) Saari, Dennis Zaleski, Cindy Churm, Jackie Zaleski and Sheri (Gary) Stano; in addition to numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

The family wishes to especially thank the staff at Villa Maria. The work you do is very difficult but so appreciated.
