Mayona Buinowski

HURLEY, Wis. - Mayona Buinowski, 89, of Ironwood, Mich., passed away at the Villa Marie Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley on April 21, 2019.

She was born to Thomas and Louise Rowe on April 1, 1930, in Savannah, Ga. She married Norbert Buinowski on June 20, 1953, in Savannah.

She enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Lake Gogebic with her family for get-togethers and spending time outdoors. Her hobbies included gardening flowers, bushes, and shrubs She enjoyed sitting on her deck in the summer looking at all her beautiful flower gardens. She was very proud of her grandchildren. She also loved her little dog, Patsy.

Mayona worked at the Holy Trinity-St. Michael's Grade School for many years in the cafeteria. She also worked as a CNA at Hautamaki's-Westgate Nursing Home until she retired. She also volunteered with the auxiliary working in the gift shop in Grandview Hospital years ago.

Mayona is survived by her husband of nearly 66 years, Norbert; daughters, Charlotte (Jeff) Behrendt and Donna (Greg) Eifolla; grandchildren, Michael (June) Behrendt, Marc Behrendt, Faith (Joe) D'Angelo; and great-grandchildren, Michael Behrendt, Grace Behrendt, Katie Behrendt and Tristan Bowman, Angela Kivi, Anthony D'Angelo and Matthew D'Angelo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Thomas and John Buinowski; brothers, Charles, Nathan, Coy and Jeffery Rowe; sister, Victoria Jackson; and granddaughter, Kristi Kivi.

Mayona has been cremated according to her wishes. A private graveside committal service will be held in July in Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.
