Conrad 'Connie' Nelson

BESSEMER. Mich. - On Thursday, May 9, 2019, Conrad "Connie" Nelson, loving husband and father passed away at the age of 91.

Conrad was born on March 2, 1928, in Bessemer, to Louis and Monica (Holup) Nelson. Conrad served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska and was honorably discharged in 1948.

He married Marie Neimi on Aug. 24, 1961, and worked in the Sunday Lake and White Pine mines. He was a member of the Bessemer American Legion and was very active in his church, strong in his faith of the Lord.

Conrad enjoyed boating on the big lake, and he was an avid collector of rocks, minerals and agates. He was a grower of grapes and blueberries, and he enjoyed picking them each year for wine and jelly. He spent much of his elder years trying to get a pear tree to bear fruit, but with little luck.

Conrad is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marie; his son, David (wife Carrie) Nelson; and daughter, Annette (husband Mark) Fabbri. He is survived by his grandchildren, Vincent Fabbri, Daniel (Ashley) Nelson, Chelsea (Anthony) Impellzzeri and Gerred (Shanice) Fabbri. He is survived by his great-grandchildren, Finn, Lily and Ellie, many nieces and nephews, and his sister, Corrine Lake.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Milton Nelson.

Funeral arrangements are being made by Lakeside Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at E8223 Sanders Road, Bessemer.
