Lois Engstrom Samardich

HURLEY, Wis. - Lois Engstrom Samardich of Hurley passed away May 22, 2019, in Hurley.

Lois came to Hurley from Milwaukee in July 1960 with her late husband, Everis R. Engstrom, and family. They owned and operated Engstrom Funeral Home in Hurley for 20 years. Everis preceded her in death on May 8,1981. On Nov. 7, 1983, she was married to Lawrence Samardich and they made their home in Gile. He preceded her in death on April 18, 2017.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hurley for many years and a member of Bertha Circle. Lois was also a member of the Lac La Belle chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and past matron and life member of the Hurley chapter of the OES.

Lois was a member and past president of the Hurley Women's Club, member of the Hurley Lionettes and the American Legion Auxiliary, and a charter member of the Grand View Hospital Auxiliary. She belonged to the Oma Women's Club and the North Woods Divas Red Hat society.

In Milwaukee, she had been active in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America.

Lois was active in the Iron County Republican Party.

She enjoyed entertaining, traveling, spending time in Florida and visiting with her children. Her goal in life was to love her family and friends and, in return be loved by them.

Survivors include a son, Everis (Toni) Engstrom of Knoxville, Tenn .; a daughter, Anna Engstrom of Pine Lake; granddaughter, Katherine Engstrom of Knoxville, Tenn .; and Dale Massoglia of Pine Lake. She is also survived by a daughter, Christine Samardich of Gile; and four sons Mark (Sue) Samardich of Bessemer, David (Cynthia) Samardich of Montreal, Jon (Leanna) Samardich of Minocqua, and Paul (Nikki) Samardich of Montreal; six grandchildren, Krystal (Steve) Wallin, Nicholas (Maggie) Samardich, Abby Samardich, Max Samardich, Jessica Samardich, and Lila Samardich; as well as six great-grandchildren, Londyn, Zayden, Jamesen, Greyson, Colt and Cruz.

Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Hurley on May 31, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Don Nicholson officiating. Friends may call at the church at 10 a.m., until the time of the service. Burial will follow the service at the Hurley Cemetery.
