John James 'Jim' Murra

HURLEY, Wis. - John James "Jim" Murra, 81, died peacefully Tuesday morning, May 21, 2019, after a short stay at Villa Maria in Hurley.

Jim was born Oct. 7, 1937, in Ironwood, Mich., son of the late Edward and Julia Murra. He was raised in Ironwood and served four years in the United States Army, stationed in Ft. Sill, Okla. He was employed by OK Auto Parts for his entire working career.

He was married to Marilyn (Weber) Murra on Sept. 17, 1960, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley by the late Monsignor Michael Prock.

Jim was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. He enjoyed woodworking, crossword puzzles and enjoyed trips to Florida and Hawaii.

He is survived by three children; daughter, Jean Murra, New Richmond; sons, John (Donna) Murra, Grand Rapids, Mich. and James Murra, Hurley; grandchildren, Shandora (Gordon) Smith, Jean Kitzman, Cherie (Andrew) Collette, Alyssa (Christopher) Hahn, Julia (Tyler) Mancl, Ryan Friddle, Mary Murra, James Murra and Grace Murra; great-grandchildren, Travis, Eric, Alisha, Brianna, Leilah and Cole Smith, Margot and Lukas Collette and Oliver Mancl, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; brothers, Edward, William, Bernard, Eugene; and sisters, Margaret, Elizabeth, Regina, Charlotte.

Rite of Committal and interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hurley.
