Roland 'Dikes' Wyszynski

MELLEN, Wis. — Roland “Dikes” Wyszynski, 81, of Montreal, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2019, at the Mellen Manor Nursing Home in Mellen.

Roland was born in Montreal to Anthony and Esther (Zanutto) Wyszynski on June 10, 1937. He graduated from Hurley High School in 1955.

He excelled in football, receiving a football scholarship to UW-Superior where he remained for one year.

He was married to the former Marlene Selves of Iron Belt, Wis. on Oct. 27, 1962. They resided in Milwaukee where he worked for Perfex from 1962 to 1980. They divorced in 1979. In 1985, Roland moved to Marquette, Mich. where he worked as a maintenance supervisor. After a period in Marquette, he returned to his home town of Montreal working in construction and various other jobs.

Roland loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He built his own log cabin, clearing the land, cutting and preparing the logs and assembling them per his own design. He was an avid craftsman, especially enjoying wood carving. He also possessed many artistic abilities as evidenced by his drawings and painting.

Roland is survived by his son, Todd (Wendy) Wyszynski of Milwaukee; his daughter, Stacey of Milwaukee; three grandchildren; his brother, Bernard (Patricia) Wyszynski of Appleton; and his sisters, Kathy (Ray) Savera and Sally Ann Orlich, both of Pence. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins to include his “angel on earth,” Donnie Zanutto, who went above and beyond on a daily basis giving Dikes more than anyone could expect from one person.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Esther Wyszynski; his maternal grandparents, Lewis, and Jennie Zanutto; his paternal grandparents, Anton, and Josephine Wyszynski and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles to include his uncle, Lawrence Zanutto, with whom he had a very special and caring bond.

He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. If you truly knew him you were his friend for life.

Per his request cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home in Ironwood on Saturday, June 8, from 10-11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m.
