Hurley — A scavenger hunt is underway in northern Iron County.

Participants have until Aug. 11 to attempt to solve a series of clues and visit 11 sites around the northern part of the county. The hunt is designed to promote wellness and show off some of the lesser-known tourist sites in the region.

“We wanted to get people outside, (as well as) include the heritage and sites that people might not be aware of,” said Rita Franzoi, the Hurley Area Chamber of Commerce’s events coordinator. “Things they can take family, friends, kids to look at.”

The contest — which started Saturday — is a partnership between the chamber, the Iron County Health Department, Whitecap Mountain Resort and Northern Iron County Engaged Residents.

To take part in the scavenger hunt, people can pick up their clue cards at the Hurley Chamber, health department’s office or Sharon’s Coffee Company.

The cards include clues referring to 11 locations in the northern part of the county. At each site, there is a card letting people know they are in the right spot, sharing extra facts about the site and listing the hashtag that can be shared on social media.

At each site, participants document the hashtag and email a photo or selfie to the Hurley chamber at [email protected] to submit their entries.

If there are multiple entries that successfully visit all the 11 sites, Franzoi said there will be a drawing to determine who wins prizes. There will also be a drawing among the participants who submit entries but don’t complete all 11 sites.

Franzoi said she hopes the scavenger hunt grows in the future, including the possibility of a similar contest in winter and incorporating multiple levels of difficulty in future events.

Anyone with questions about the current scavenger hunt can contact the chamber at 715-561-4334.
