Colleen Ann Green

WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Colleen Ann Green, 75, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away Thursday afternoon, Aug. 29, 2019.

Colleen was born on June 30, 1944, in Wakefield, the daughter of Robert A. and Veronica (Nolan) Burns. She attended Wakefield High School and graduated in 1962.

After earning her bachelor's degree from St. Scholastica in 1966, Colleen held several teaching positions at Gwinn, St. Sebastian, Ironwood Community Preschool and Wakefield. She took great pleasure working with so many wonderful and loving students and parents.

Colleen was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a supporting member of the choir for more than 40 years, a religious instructor for 16 years and the Immaculate Conception Women's Guild. She was a dedicated member of the Wakefield Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084. Her entire life was filled with love of family, friends and church.

Surviving are her beloved high school sweetheart and husband of nearly 53 years, Joe; a son, Kevin (special friend, Angela); two cherished grandchildren, Elliot and Meadow; a brother, Robert (Nancy) Burns; three sisters-in-law, Patty Gast, Bonnie Green and Kelly Laakso; and many dear nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Shannon Theresa, on April 24, 2017; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph W. and Isabel Green; and her brother-in-law, David Green.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 407 Ascherman St., in Wakefield. A memorial service will take place at the church following the visitation under the auspices of the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 9084.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dominic Agyapong, celebrant. Also, in attendance will be the Immaculate Conception Women's Guild Honor Guard.

Rite of Committal and interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.

Luncheon will be served at the VFW Post 9084, 107 E. U.S. 2 in Wakefield upon return from the cemetery.

Expressions of affection in a charitable contribution in Colleen's memory are suggested in lieu of flowers to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for Masses, c/o Tri Parish Office, 210 E. Iron St., Bessemer, MI 49911 or to Gogebic Medical Care Facility Activities Department, 402 North St., Wakefield, MI 49968.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the caring staff at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility, who provided many kindnesses to Colleen and her family.
