Bessemer — An Ironwood man will serve over 7 years in prison on a drug charge after he was sentenced in Gogebic County Circuit Court.

Donald Pierre Jett, 52, was sentenced to at least 87 months in prison for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine Wednesday. The potential maximum sentence for the charge is 30 years, as Jett was found to be a habitual offender — which extends the 20-year maximum sentence the charge carries.

Jett pleaded guilty to the charge in July as part of plea agreement that had charges of possession of heroin, delivery or possession of a controlled substance in a park, possession of suboxone and maintaining a drug house dismissed at sentencing.

Two charges of interfering in a criminal case and one count of intimidating a witness in two related cases will also be dismissed at sentencing.

Jett was arrested following the execution of a search warrant on his Ironwood house on Feb. 12 after he sold someone what he called at his plea hearing “an eight ball” of meth. He told the court at the hearing he was on parole at the time of his arrest. Pope said the sentence in the current case won’t start until Jett completes any additional sentence stemming from his parole violation.

He also testified in July he had a prior conviction in Gogebic County from 2015 for delivery of heroin that was the basis of his habitual offender designation.

In addition to his prison sentence, Jett was ordered to pay various court costs.
