Mary Ann (Mladenoff) Ransanici

HURLEY, Wis. — Mary Ann (Mladenoff) Ransanici, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, at the Sky View Nursing Home in Hurley.

Mary Ann was born at home in Puritan, Mich., on July 30, 1933, to Boris and Mary (Plasha) Mladenoff. She lived in Puritan for the first part of her childhood and the family then moved to Jesseville (Bonnie Location), Mich. She attended school in Puritan and went to Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood, Mich., where she graduated with the Class of 1951. After graduation, she worked as an operator for the telephone company in Ironwood.

Mary Ann married Guido Ransanici on Sept.11, 1954. Together they raised three children, Rick, Judy and Randy.

Mary Ann was an avid bowler in the 1960s and 1970s and was a member of the Iron County Women’s Bowling League. She and Guido also loved to golf and spend time at the cottage on Island and Pine Lakes. She loved watching the Green Bay Packers play during football season, and anyone could probably hear her screaming any time the team scored or the Vikings lost. She and Guildo owned and operated Guido’s Pasty Shop in Hurley (Home of the Famous Pasty) from 1958 to 1991 and made many friends with their loyal customers.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Guido, in 1991; parents, Boris and Mary Mladenoff; brothers, John (Mary) Mladenoff, Sam (Ann) Mladenoff, and Clifford (Mary) Maden; sister, Patricia (Mladenoff) Olson; and brothers-in-law, Willard Parent, Leo Olson and Frances (Wilfred) Ellis.

She is survived by her sons, Rick (Patti) Ransanici of Dansville, N.Y. and Randy (Karen) Ransanici of Hurley; daughter, Judy Ransanici of Mount Dora, Fla .; four grandchildren, Megan Ransanici (Penn Yann) of New York, Alyssa Ransanici of Brea, Calif., and Gavin and Derek Ransanici both of Hurley; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hurley at 11 a.m. with Fr. Frank Kordek OFM as celebrant, preceded by a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. A luncheon will take place following the burial in the church hall.

Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hurley immediately following the Mass.
