Ironwood — The Ironwood Area Historical Society is having its annual banquet Thursday at the Olde Suffolk Ale House at 125 South Suffolk Street.

This year's speaker will be Percy Smith. Smith retired 16 years ago as the superintendent of the Ironwood Area Schools. He will be giving a presentation on the history of the districtthroughout the years, said historical society board member Sandy Sharp.

Smith said he will also be speaking about how state and local politics have affected the schools. He stated he is not affiliated with either major party.

There have been just under 16,000 graduates of the Ironwood Area Schools over the years, said Smith and he feels the district could do more to keep in touch with past graduates and staff members. “Many have gone on to do things and we don't even know (what they've gone on to do),” he said.

Smith will be speaking at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited.
