Sigrid Bonetti

ONTONAGON, Mich. — Sigrid Bonetti passed away Oct. 25, 2019 at Ontonagon Aspirus Long Term Care. She was born in Bruce Crossing on Feb. 25, 1930, to the late Charles and Sophie (Moilanen) Lindberg. She attended local schools and graduated from Ewen High School with the Class of 1948.

Sigrid worked at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company employment office in Detroit for a short time. She returned here, where she met and married Frank Osterman in 1949. He drowned at Lake Gogebic in 1955.

In 1957 she married Val Bonetti in Ironwood, where they made their home before moving to Green Bay, Wis., and then on to Cleveland, Ohio, Washington D.C. and other cities where her husband was stationed in his military career.

In 1950 Sigrid began working for Sears in Ironwood, and stayed with the company for 22 years. She held a management position, being a fashion merchandiser and purchaser in Sears stores in Green Bay, Cleveland, Sault Ste. Marie, Petoskey and Washington D.C. She retired from Sears in 1972, when her husband retired from the military, and they moved to Bruce Crossing to make their home.

She was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Foreign Wars Post #9345, and the Ontonagon County Cancer Association of which she was the south end representative and cancer drive coordinator for many years. She was a willing volunteer for any number of functions through the years and she enjoyed picking berries and making jam for others. She also raised a garden each year. Her pastime was working challenging crossword puzzles. She was an avid bowler for over 46 years.

She was also a member of the Charter Member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and also next of kin in the X-POW’s. She was active in all military organizations.

Besides her parents and husbands Frank and Val, she was preceded in death by her three sisters Alvina Juhola, Martha Fleming and Shirley Sexton; four brothers Oliver, Charles, Robert and Raymond Lindberg.

Survivors are her son John (Kim) Bonetti of Rochester, Mich .; two grandsons Evan Bonetti (Sami Eckert), Ryan Bonetti (Beth Powell), of Independence Township, Mich .; two step granddaughters, Samantha (Devon) Hendrickson of Belleville, Mich. and Kasey (Zack) Goodwin of Petoskey, Mich .; and one great granddaughter, Luna Mae Bonetti.

As requested by the deceased, cremation will be performed and inurnment will be in the Bonetti lot at Hillside Cemetery in Bruce Crossing. No formal services will be held.

A memorial dinner will be held at Henry A Holappa VFW Post 9345 on Saturday Nov. 9. Time will be announced at a later date.
