Marie Antoinette Nelson

BESSEMER, Mich. - Marie Antoinette Nelson, 77, a lifelong resident of Bessemer, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, with her family at her side at Court Manor in Ashland, Wis.

Marie was born on March 1, 1942, in Wakefield, the daughter of Arthur and Antoinette Niemi. She was a graduate of A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer.

On Aug. 24, 1961, Marie was united in marriage to Conrad "Connie" Nelson. They celebrated nearly 58 years of marriage before his passing on May 9, 2019.

For many years, Marie worked as a florist.

She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing a variety of card and table games with her friends and family. Marie loved to travel and spent time with Conrad in places like Alaska and California. She took pleasure gardening and bird watching, especially hummingbirds. One of her passions in her later years was going to the movies.

Marie was active in her church. She always remained a member even when she was unable to attend. She remained strong in her faith.

Marie is survived by a son, David (Carrie); a daughter, Annette (Mark) Fabbri; four cherished grandchildren, Vincent Fabbri, Daniel (Ashley) Nelson, Chelsea (Anthony) Impellzzeri and Gerred (Shanice) Fabbri; three precious great-grandchildren, Finn, Lily and Ellie; a brother, Ronnie Niemi; and many dear nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to the staff at Golden Living Center, Court Manor for their compassionate care and support during Marie's stay.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, E8223 Sanders Road in Bessemer, with the Rev. Timothy J. Steckling officiating.

Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer.
