Ironwood - Many of the Historic Ironwood Theatre's volunteers gathered at the theater Sunday night for a volunteer appreciation party to recognize their efforts in helping the downtown Ironwood institution continue to operate.

"The theater wouldn't exist without the volunteers. Financially, the theater isn't able to pay a full-time operations manager, an office manager - we really could use four or five full-time people here," said theater board president Zona Wick. "But that isn't financially feasible in a small town like ours, so we have to rely on volunteers to be able to do all these jobs we talked about."

She added that many of those involved in theaters around the region continue to express surprise at what the Historic Ironwood Theatre is able to accomplish through just volunteer efforts.

Along with mingling through the theater lobby and mezzanine lounge while enjoying refreshments and piano music, the volunteers also had the opportunity to hear what the theater's committees have been working on.

Although each of the committees has generally been busy with their respective roles and projects, a common theme was more volunteers are always needed.

Wick said anyone who is considering volunteering is welcome, and there's something available for everyone interested in helping.

"We have so many areas of interest - from building and maintenance, to office work, to cleaning. You can have a lot of skills, you can have no skills; we can find a place for you to spend your time," Wick said.

Anyone interested in volunteering can email Wick at [email protected] or visit the theater office during box office hours, noon to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday through Friday.
