Kathleen Karen Barnabo

HURLEY, Wis. - Kathleen Karen Barnabo, 80, of Hurley, formerly of Pence, went into the presence of our Lord on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019.

Kathleen was born to Joseph and Esther (Herlevi) Baima on Nov. 24, 1938, in Pence. She was the younger of two daughters and loved her childhood in Pence. Kathleen graduated from Hurley High School in 1956, where she participated in numerous activities.

Kathleen met Robert Barnabo while still in high school, and they were married on Feb. 23, 1957.

She was a devoted wife and mother of five children. Moving often for her husband's jobs, they made their final stop back in Hurley in 1981.

Kathleen was a very sentimental person and family was very important to her. She enjoyed her beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A wonderful cook, Kathleen was often seen in the kitchen or reading a good book. She loved and cared for her daughter, Linda, along with her "fur babies," Gretchen and Chloe.

Deeply enriched by her faith, Kathleen attended Mass faithfully. There she found her comfort and solace.

She will remain in the hearts of those who loved her the most, her five children and their spouses, Geoff (Pam) Barnabo, Mark (Jane) Barnabo, Robin (Marty) Schmitz, Linda Barnabo and Robert (Anna) Barnabo; her grandchildren, Nicole Barnabo, Shawn Barnabo, Matthew Barnabo, Scott (Carina) Barnabo, Ashley Barnabo, Michelle (Matt) Barnabo, Jennifer (Josh) Sonnenburg, Lauren Schmitz, Steven (Mayim) Barnabo and Stephanie (Karl) Szyszkoski; eight great-grandchildren with another one arriving in May; her sister, Geraldine (Lawrence) Kutz; and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in eternal life was her beloved husband, Robert Barnabo I; and her parents, Joseph and Esther Baima.

Kathleen's family would like to give special thanks to the staff at both Skyview Nursing Center and Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care she received while there.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m., preceded by visitation at noon, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 108 S. Marquette St., in Ironwood, Mich., with the Rev. Binu Joseph, celebrant.

Luncheon will be served at the parish hall following the Mass.

Rite of Committal and interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Iron Belt.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield, Mich. Condolences may be expressed online at lakesidememorialchapel.com.
