Local districts prepare for winter concerts

As the calendar turns from November to December, local school districts are busy preparing for their annual winter concerts.

Districts in Gogebic and Ontonagon counties, as well as Iron County in Wisconsin, will host concerts in the coming weeks. Bessemer kicks things off this year with its junior high and high school concert Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. in the A.D. Johnston gymnasium. The district’s fifth, sixth, junior high and high school band concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. Dec. 14 in the A.D. Johnston gymnasium. The district’s elementary concert is scheduled for Dec. 20, with rehearsal at 9 a.m. and the concert at 1 p.m. in the gymnasium

The other district concerts are scheduled as follows:

Ironwood

Ironwood’s concerts will begin with its K-5 concert, which is scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 12 in the Luther L. Wright K-12 School’s second floor gym.

The high school and middle school bands will combine for a concert at the Historic Ironwood Theatre Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.

The district’s sixth grade band and choir concert will take place at 7 p.m., Dec. 17 in the second floor gym.

The district’s seventh and eighth grade choir, along with the Accent! show choir, will perform at the Historic Ironwood Theatre Dec. 20, at 7 p.m.

Wakefield-Marenisco

Wakefield-Marenisco’s concert, featuring performances by the K-12 students in band and choir, is scheduled for Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. at the school.

Watersmeet

The Watersmeet School’s concert will be 6 p.m. Dec. 19 in the school gym.

Hurley

Hurley’s winter band concert for grades 5-12 will take place Dec. 10, 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. The district’s grades 6-12 choir concert will take place the next day, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Hurley’s elementary music program is scheduled for Dec. 18, with pre-k through first grade students performing at 8:45 a.m. and grades two through four performing at 9:45 a.m. Both of these concerts will also be in the auditorium. Although the district’s Silver Express won’t be performing its own holiday concert, it will be performing at the district’s Spirit Tree lighting, which is Wednesday starting at 6:30 p.m.

Mercer

The Mercer School Christmas concert will be at 6 p.m. on Dec. 11 in the school gymnasium.

Ontonagon

Ontonagon’s holiday concert is currently scheduled for Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. at the school.

Ewen-Trout Creek

Ewen-Trout Creek’s annual Community Christmas Dinner and concert will be held at the Ewen Centennial Hall Dec. 15, with the dinner starting at 4 p.m. and the concert starting at 5:30 p.m. The concert will feature the district’s high school choir and band. The district’s elementary program will be held at 7 p.m., Dec. 19 in the school cafeteria.
