Margaret Erm

RHINELANDER, Wis. — Margaret Erm passed away at Rennes Health and Rehab Center in Rhinelander on Nov. 26, 2019. She was born in Oma on July 28,1926 to Frank and Pauline Erm.

Margaret graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood, Mich., in 1944. She had a widely varied employment background, from her first job at an ice cream shop to working for Gogebic Auto, to working with the new computer technology at a power company in Illinois, and finally a career as a teacher. She received her teaching degree from Northern Michigan University in 1959. She was certified to teach music, math and English.

She began her teaching career as a music teacher in Painesdale, Mich. She went on to teach on U.S. military bases in Iceland, Italy and Spain during the 1960s. In 1968 she returned to the U.S. to teach math at Lakeland Union High School.

After retiring, she continued her dedication to helping young people by volunteering at the Lac du Flambeau School.

She was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she often played accompaniment for Mass. Margaret was also active in the community, serving on the Lakeland Union High School Board and receiving an award from the Bonhomie Club of the Howard Young Foundation.

Margaret loved to learn. She not only took classes related to her profession, but also in ceramics, stained glass, sailing, gourmet cooking, auto tuning and various painting classes. She enjoyed Bible studies, retreats and being in the Diocesan Choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and by sisters, Alice Dembowski and Evelyn Erm.

She is survived by her sister, Barbara Jean (Leo) Morris; niece, Mary Ann Morris; and nephews, Charles Morris and Rodney Morris. She is also survived by cousins, Carol (Ken) Knight, Jan Erm Peterson, Joe (Judy) Erm, Mike (Greta) Erm and other cousins and beloved friends.

Thank you to the kind staff at Rennes and the Ascension Hospice for their dedicated care.

A celebration of life for Margaret will be held in early June. Gifts in memory may be donated to the Lac du Flambeau School for the music department or their Cultural Connections program.
