Nancy M. Berg

BESSEMER, Mich. - Nancy M. Berg, 77, of Bessemer, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019.

Nancy was born Dec. 29, 1941, to V. Melvin and Shirley (Koskie) Jacobson, of South Bessemer. She grew up on a dairy farm and was very active in 4-H, showing dairy animals and other projects at the fair. Nancy attended Harding Grade School, graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in 1959, and continued her education at Gogebic Community College.

Nancy moved to Milwaukee to begin the next chapter of her life, meeting and marrying Joseph F. Seffker, in 1964. They had three children: Joseph II, Tracy Mae and Grant. After her husband, Joe's passing in 1978, Nancy returned to Bessemer. She was reacquainted with Ray Berg and his daughter, Traci Lee. Nancy and Ray married in 1980, and together they raised their blended family.

Nancy was always an active person working and volunteering her whole life. She worked at the Cheese Haus Gift Shop for many years and was currently working as a member of the Aspirus Ironwood Hospital Auxiliary, managing the gift shop. Nancy was presently serving on the Church Council at Sharon Lutheran Church. In addition, she was a poll worker for elections and volunteered at the Gogebic County Fair every year.

Nancy enjoyed many hobbies and activities. She was an avid bowler, loved traveling, camping at Lake Gogebic, fishing, knitting, cooking, canning and watching baseball and football, especially the Green Bay Packers! She was always on the go! Through all of life's trials and tribulations, Nancy remained a very strong person and always carried herself with dignity and grace. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Nancy is survived by four children: Joseph F. Seffker (Sue), Tracy Mae Damm (Brian), Traci Lee Cherne (Chris) and Grant Berg (Vicky); six grandchildren: Courtney Seffker, Cole Olson, Cory, Colin, Caleb and Caden Winter; a sister, Kathy Wilson, and her sons: Mark, David (Tanya) and Craig (Brenda) Wilson; and a very special aunt, Carol Martin, and her son: Darryl (Adele) Martin and their children.

She was preceded in death by both husbands, Joseph F. Seffker and Raymond H. Berg; her parents, V. Melvin and Shirley Jacobson; a brother, LeRoy (Carolyn) Jacobson; her brother-in-law, Pat Wilson; and her grandsons, Alex J. Seffker and Jeremy R. Olson.

Cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, at noon, preceded by visitation at 10:30 a.m., at Sharon Lutheran Church, 100 E. Sellar St., in Bessemer, with the Rev. Bill Jacobson and the Rev. Mark E. Sabin co-officiating.
