Ironwood - It may have been close to a week, but Aspirus Ironwood Hospital and Clinic welcomed its first baby of the new year - and new decade - into the world Jan. 6.

Adria Lea Owen was born at 2:44 p.m., to Brittany and Jordan Owen, weighing 7 pounds, 13 ounces and measuring 19.5 inches at birth.

The couple had Adria Lea at Aspirus Ironwood because it was the closest birthing center to the family's home in Tipler, Wisconsin - near Iron River, Michigan.

Brittany said that, given the birth date, she wasn't expecting to be the first birth of the year for the hospital.

"It was exciting and surprising, being that she was born on the 6th. So when the nurse came in and told us that, we thought it was really cool," she said.

Adria Lea is the couple's first child and the family is excited to continue settling into their lives.

"We're doing great. It's kind of amazing the love you find for your child after they're born," Brittany said.

Although she said she was pretty nervous about bringing the baby home, Brittany credited her husband with helping ensure everything continues to run smoothly

"We're doing pretty good," she said, laughing.

Brittany, who works for Today's Smile Dentistry in Crystal Falls; and Jordan, who works for Asplundh Tree Expert, have both been enjoying getting a couple of weeks off to enjoy their new family.

It probably helps the new parents that Adria Lea isn't causing too much trouble.

"For the most part, (she's a calm baby)," Brittany said. "She's a little fussy in the middle of the night, but overall she sleeps pretty good."
