Carl P. Sauter

Hurley, Wis. - Carl P. Sauter, 93, of Hurley, passed away on Dec. 31, 2019, at Villa Maria Health Care Center in Hurley.

Carl was born on Feb. 16, 1926, in Ironwood, son of Joseph and Caroline (Zimmerman) Sauter. He graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1944 and served in the U. S. Army in World War II.

He was a long-time employee of OK Auto Parts in Ironwood and previously of the A & P grocery store. He was an avid trout fisherman; and later in life, enjoyed golf, bocce, and gardening. He was also a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood. For both family and friends, Carl was always ready to entertain with a joke or humorous story.

Carl was a loving, caring and supportive father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. His family was very important to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ruth (Peterson); second wife, Doris (Anderson); brother, Joseph Sauter; and sister, Gretchen Peterson.

Carl is survived by his sons, Ken (Alice) Sauter and Dave (Barb) Sauter; daughter, Carol Jacobsen; grandchildren, Michelle (Matt) Stenzel, Marika (Nathan) Patterson and Dan (Abby) Jacobsen; two great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Carolyn) Sauter, David (Joanne) Sauter and Dick (Karen) Sauter; sisters-in-law, Jean Mrdjenovich and Helen Erickson; stepsons, Jim (Kathy) Anderson and Lanny (Gail) Anderson; step-daughter, Gayle (Al) Anderson; four step-grandsons; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Carl's life will be held in the spring.
