Ewen — Work on a fabrication laboratory at the Ewen-Trout Creek School District is moving fast as the ETC board heard at their regular January meeting. Superintendent Dave Radovich reported thatDon Sidlowski of the Northwoods Economic Development Coalition will present to the staff and board on Friday to talk philosophies and procedures for having a Fab Lab and MakerSpace as part of the ETC curriculum. Radovich noted that instructor Nina Fiorucci will be attending training this summer for the FabLab and Digital Art.

Since the Gogebic Ontonagon Intermediate School District is contributing some Fab Lab funds to all the six schools of the GOISD, the ETC Board approved a memo of understanding that any student in the GOISD district may use the equipment. It will also be available to people in the community as well, Radovich said. Digital design will be included into the curriculum for next year, he noted.

The board held its reorganizational meeting and re-elected all their present officers: John Pinkerton, president, Shawn Brown, vice president, Carol Maki, secretary, and Samantha Schutz, treasurer. The ETC Board meets the fourth Wednesdays of the month except November, December and May when it will be the third Wednesday.

The board discussed bus needs and if the district should buy a used bus or what size they should purchase. Bids for State financial assistance must be in soon and the board will decide the issue at its next meeting. They agreed to purchase gas from the county garage in Bruce Crossing which is .19 cents cheaper and saves the district some money since they burn up to 1,300 gallons a month for transporting students to and from school as well as extra curricular travel, mostly sports activity. Pat Kitzman appeared before the board and discussed PILT funds and lack of public discussion.

Radovich on behalf of the administration and staff presented board members with certificates of recognition and thanked them for their years of service. A letter of recognition was given to each member prior to the meeting and after the meeting treats were provided for attendees and school board members.
